Some things you need to see (and hear)
The origins of this idea were pretty simple. We’d already made the Evolution of Dance Music, so it made sense to make the rock version too.
This time, however, the geographic origins of the different genres were less clear. And the number of different styles meant they weren’t going to fit on one page.
So we decided to make the content scroll down a wall.
The design of ‘the wall’ gave a subtle nod to one of the greatest rock albums ever. But you got that, right?
And there was another nice addition too. While it’s one thing to SEE the evolution of rock, we also wanted to HEAR it. So we added audio samples of each genre – to further aid the viewer (and listener) in tracing the lines of influence.
